Stichting BirdLife Europe (BLE)

Stichting BirdLife Europe (from now on: BLE) is a non-profit organisation under Dutch law. It was formed voluntarily for the public good and does not distribute profits to members or management or pursue the commercial interests of its members. It is independent of government and other public authorities. BLE is the European Division of BirdLife International, a worldwide Partnership that works to conserve birds, their habitats and global biodiversity; working with people towards sustainability in the use of natural resources. BirdLife Europe’s mission is to prevent extinctions in the wild; maintain and where possible improve the conservation status of all bird species; conserve the sites and habitats important for birds and other biodiversity; sustain the vital ecological systems that underpin human livelihoods, and enrich the quality of people’s lives.

BLE works to achieve this mission by focusing on species, sites, habitats and people. It takes an active role in the development and implementation of European Union (EU) nature policy and the effective integration of biodiversity protection into other policy areas. It coordinates the activities of the BirdLife European Partnership and the implementation of the agreed BirdLife European programme. BLE’s partnership covers the whole European Union and a majority of the European non-EU and Central Asian countries. It aims to have one Partner per country. BLE partners are Civil Society Organisations, i.e. non-profit and member based, independent, non-governmental organisations, with local expertise and extensive grassroots support.

BirdLife Europe has its main office in Brussels (BE) but is registered for historical reasons in the Netherlands. BirdLife partners in Europe work together on forest conservation through an informal working group called BirdLife’s European Forest Task Force (FTF).

Within ARANGE BLE will be responsible for the coordination and harmonization of habitat requirement models for selected key species in Natura2000 sites in the case study regions. BLE will further contribute to dissemination and training activities in selected case studies.
